What if I do not live with my parents?
If you are under the age of 25, generally speaking, financial aid offices require parental information so they can determine how much aid you are eligible for. If you are not living with your parents, but do still have a relationship with them and can get access to their information, it is best to try to provide whatever you can. If you are in a situation that you cannot contact your parents or get this information, or have a special circumstance, you should write a letter explaining your situation to the best of your ability to the Scholars of Promise Committee. You should also ask a teacher or counselor, or other individual to write a letter on your behalf.
What if my parents did not work in 2015?
If your parents did not work in 2015, you can indicate so on the Parental Financial Information Form and Tax Filing Confirmation Form by filling in $0 for income, etc. However, you can indicate on this form if they received other forms of financial assistance in 2015. You will not need to order any W-2’s or Tax Return Transcripts. However, you should write a letter indicating where your family received financial support from in 2015.
