Boys & Girls Club of Dane County

“At Boys & Girls Club of Dane County, it is our goal to lead the way in youth development programs by working together with local businesses, foundations, and community programs to produce positive outcomes for nearly 7,500 young people and their families.

Affiliated with Boys & Girls Club of America, our Club is led locally by a dedicated team of professionals specializing in youth development, business management, and community outreach.”

Who is eligible?
Our summer Digital Career Experience program is open to current 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students and current college students.

What is the program?

Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County will host an alternative “internship experience” program that will guide a cohort of 50 students through career exploration, skill building and networking, through a collaborative project-based learning model. Local career partners will design internship projects that teams of students will work on throughout the duration of the summer. Projects will mirror the work assignments an intern might take on during a conventional summer internship program.

Participants can expect to consider their career interests, set goals related to their job skills, connect with and learn from professionals in Madison, and build skills in networking, collaboration, communication, technology, and more! This experience will prepare you for future career opportunities, and will be a great experience to highlight on your resume. You will also work with and get to know other teens in Madison!

When is the program?

The program will run June 22, 2020 – July 24, 2020.

Interns will be expected to commit to the entire 5 week program. All interns accepted will be asked to complete an application to become Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County members.

Application Process:

Applications will be accepted from May 6th – May 27th.

Application deadline: Wednesday, May 27, 2020 11:59 PM CST

Program Participants will be selected and notified no later than June 3rd.

Application Instructions:

  • Applicants will be asked to determine a career cluster that they would most like to focus on this summer. You can learn more about career clusters here, or take this career cluster interest survey.
  • Complete application (also can click on the light blue button “Digital Career Experience Application”) by Wednesday, May 27, 2020 11:59 PM CST.

Students participating will earn up to $600 for completion of the program, and youth who attend MMSD schools will be eligible to earn school credit through the Employability Skills Certificate program.

You can expect to dedicate approximately 8-10 hours a week to this program, with some of that time being during live video calls or collaborative work, and other time working individually or asynchronously on assignments.
